While the bride and her bridesmaids are certainly the center of attention in most weddings, the spotlight is still shared with the groom and his groomsmen. It’s just as important to consider the groomsmen’s outfits as it is the bridesmaid’s. This attire can help tie the entire look of the ceremony together, not to mention that it will be a part of many special photos that you’ll want to cherish down the road.
To help you get started on planning your fashion-forward groomsmen looks for the big day, we brought in JJsHouse designer, Jessica, who had some trendy advice to share. Her first words of fashion wisdom are to make sure that the theme of the wedding is set and the outfits for the bride, bridesmaids and groom are all picked out. The groomsmen’s attire will need to match all of these elements for the most stylish and cohesive look.
The Theme is Everything
With so many different wedding themes and style options available, you can really benefit from narrowing your attire search based on your wedding theme. Consider the style of the wedding as well as the formality of the event. For example, you’ll be looking at much different options for a super-formal, black-tie ceremony than you will a country-style or vintage-themed ceremony.
Pay Attention to Evolving Details
What’s in style today is entirely different than what was in style decades ago. Today, it’s all about doing the traditional with a twist. Tuxedos are being worn with long ties instead of bow ties. Cummerbunds are being swapped for vests. A couple other modern tux trends include three-button jackets and non-pleated shirts.
Think Outside the Tux
For country-themed, vintage-style and otherwise casual ceremonies, think outside the tux. Consider dressing the groomsmen in blazers and choosing some matching accessories like belts, ties, pocket squares or even socks, to tie the looks together. Another excellent way to not only coordinate the looks of the groomsmen but tie the entire wedding party together is to use extra fabric from the bridesmaid’s dresses and make matching accessories with it for the groomsmen’s looks.
Don’t Be Afraid to Play with Texture and Color
A major modern trend for groomsmen attire is using textured looks. Whether you’re planning a casual or formal ceremony, consider swapping plain, traditional fabrics with fabrics like corduroy, velvet or patterned pieces. Bold colors are on-trend as well. Burgundy is a rich and elegant color that can be used for a blazer or jacket or it can be used as an accent color on ties and pocket squares. For a louder look, consider dressing the groomsmen in bright blue instead of dark navy or black.
The most stylish groomsmen looks are ones that incorporate some unique elements and bold accents. Today’s trendiest looks are all about steering away from the safe and traditional looks of the past. Think outside the box and give your groomsmen a fun and stylish outfit they’ll be proud to wear on your big day.
