Seeing Through the Eyes of a Local: How Using a Private Tour Guide Can Change Your Travel Experience

When someone thinks of venturing out and experiencing new countries, they often have a specific vision in mind. One of an adventurous person or couple wandering through the vibrant and exotic streets of a foreign city, stumbling upon a hidden restaurant that offers a one-of-a-kind food experience or coming across unique landmarks that are a bit off the beaten trail and offer the true beauty of nature.

However, realistically, when people go on vacation, there are a lot of not so romantic bits, like wandering through unknown streets looking at a phone and trying to find the best places based on the top 10 articles posted online. That is not to say that your original vision cannot be achieved. It is still very much a possibility, but it requires the use of a private tour guide. Using local guides can revolutionize your entire vacation in a variety of ways. Here are the main ways that using a private guide can completely change your travel experience:

Learn the Untold Stories About Destinations

Simply seeing something in person, like a famous landmark or a dramatic landscape, is definitely a large part of the excitement surrounding travel. Being able to set your eyes on something that is completely different from everything you know back home can be truly exhilarating.

However, an important element that elevates the quality of the experience even further is being told about lesser-known stories that most visitors never learn about. These unique stories and details are what really make destinations and objects come to life. Rather than being glued to your phone trying to research everything you come across, a local tour guide will know all of this information off the top of their head and will be eager to share it with you.

Discover More Unique Locations

As previously mentioned, most tourists just rely on generic tourist articles to tell them where to go when they are in a new country. While this will likely give you an enjoyable experience, it will end up being an exact copy of what millions of other tourists have also experienced. If you are interested in getting a more one-of-a-kind look at a new location, then your best bet is to use a private guide or a private tour operator.

Private tour operators differ in that they have relationships with guides around a specific region, and have reviewed and vetted their touring backgrounds and licensing credentials. This allows the tour operator to choose the most qualified and appropriate guide for each client.

For example, some situations call for an operator with familiarity working with young children, a background in genealogy, or a master’s in European history, all of which can be easily achieved by going through a private tour operator service. This will make the hunt for the right guide much easier, save time, and deliver more value for your investment.

Since these locals have lived there for many years, they will have in-depth knowledge of where everything is and what the best places to visit are. Not only can they take you to some of the most popular locations, but they can also guide you to many of the lesser-known areas that are just as magnificent, if not more. They will also be significantly less busy, which means that you will have more time and space to enjoy the beauty of everything.

Experience Exceptional Food

Chances are that if you are traveling anywhere far from home your destination will have significantly different food than what you are used to. Trying to work your way through this minefield of new food items can sometimes be tricky. Not only do you not know what food is good and what food is not, you are also unaware of any of the traditions or customs that go along with eating the various foods.

Trying to figure this all out on the fly can be particularly stressful and cause you to enjoy your food experiences a little less. Luckily, using private guides can allow you to get an insight into the unique food culture of your vacation destination.

These locals will have a thorough knowledge of which restaurants are the best ones to go to, where the best deals are, and all of the customs that you need to be aware of. They can also recommend specific locations based on your individual tastes, which is something that online written articles are not able to do.

Meet More Locals

If you follow the path of most tourists, then you are only going to stick to visiting extremely popular venues that are run by institutions rather than a handful of locals. However, if you choose to hire a private tour guide, then they will likely have relationships with many of the locals in the area. They can then bring you to experience the services that these locals offer.

Since these are people who are not getting massive flocks of tourists every year, they are going to be much more likely to give you individual attention and offer you better experiences. This will help give you a behind-the-scenes and more hands-on look at how life is in a new country.

If one of a kind experiences is what you are after, then using private tour guides is really the only way to travel. To get help with your private tour guide needs, visit Travelous today.

  1. I totally agree with you! I think it will never be the same to go for yourself walking or looking for stories on the internet that having the person telling us about everything you know about the place, I can definitely tell you about one of my experiences when you visit Yucatan, I took 2 times the bus that gives the tour of the city, because in one there was no guide to explain and really was just like a walk, however when the guide explained to us about all the details of each monument I could understand why it is so important for the people there!
