On my most recent trip to South Africa, I had the opportunity to spend 10 unforgettable nights in the South African bush taking incredible aerial photos of Kruger National Park for my web show and a South Africa promo film project. Kruger National Park is the best place in the country to experience wildlife. On any given day you can experience the thrill of a kill or see each of the Big Five in only one afternoon game drive.
Before this trip I bought a DJI Phantom Vision 2+ so that we could get aerial footage and photography for our films. I wish I had known more about the strict regulations against drones (because of poaching) in Kruger, because of this we were very limited with locations where we could send the drone up. The places where I was able to shoot provided sweeping views of the park during dry season. Here are 8 of my favorite aerial photos of Kruger National Park:
Our safari vehicle parked at a watering hole near the Nokana Safari Camp
Aerial views of the Sand River behind the Umkumbe Safari Lodge
The canvas tented lodges of Nokana Safari Camp
Bird’s eye view of our safari group standing on rocks near the Nokana Safari Camp
Aerial shot 100+ feet above Umkumbe Safari Lodge in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Aerial photo of Kruger National Park during September, a very dry month
The dried-out Sand River behind Umkumbe Safari Lodge
Our safari convoy heading out into the bush
Here is an extra photo that we got of the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg
Have you been to Kruger National Park? Let us know which area of the park is the best for wildlife!
