Whether you’re visiting Florida for the first time or are a life-long resident of the beautiful Sunshine State, the Space Coast is one of the best places to vacation along the Florida coastline.
The area was aptly named “Space Coast” as it is the area surrounding the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. There is too much to see in one day, so grab a room at the Holiday Inn Viera and see what all the buzz is about. Here are some of the must-see spots for your next trip.
Kennedy Space Center
As mentioned, one of the central points of the Space Coast is the Kennedy Space Center. Here, you can check out the visitor complex and see some amazing pieces of our history, such as the Space Shuttle Atlantis. For a behind-the-gates look at real space shuttle launch sites, you can take a bus tour of the area. You can also get real-life astronaut training and walk through a simulated space walk, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
One of the most popular activities in Florida is surfing, and the Space Coast has no shortage of great surf destinations for all levels of difficulty. Some of the most popular surf destinations along the Space Coast are the Sebastian Inlet, which has one of the best breaks in the area at First Peak, surfed by many of the greats like Kelly Slater, and 2nd Light Beach, which is safer for those just starting out, who are also not looking to get caught up in big crowds.
There’s so much to see on the Space Coast that you might not get it all in during a short trip. If you’re looking to pack the most in, you might want to consider a tour such as the Cocoa Beach Helicopter tours. Get a bird’s-eye view of the gorgeous coast, as well as the space shuttle runway at the Kennedy Space Center.
Regardless of your taste in food, the Space Coast will have something to satisfy your cravings. Get some of the freshest shrimp in the Sunshine State at Dixie Crossroads, or grab something light and sweet at La Crepe de France. If you’re looking for an alcoholic beverage, The Boardwalk Bar is a popular destination that offers BYO mojitos and quick snacks you can grab before heading out to the beach. And, of course, no trip to Florida is complete without a slice of their famous key lime pie.
