Moonstones: Mining, Processing and Hand Crafting

David’s Been Here heads to a Moonstone mine to learn about the mining, processing and production of the gems. Follow David through a cinnamon farm to the site of one moonstone mine, where he learns the processes and procedures of mining, panning and collecting these precious stones. After hand digging and sifting, the raw stones are gathered and separated into white and blue (blue being exclusively found in this village) and are then sent off for processing. After being cut and polished in a factory, these gems are separated by grades and hand crafted into jewelry or other final products. Learn all about this unique trade found here in Sri Lanka with the DBH Guide: Galle, also available for your Kindle.
