The Historic Town of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Pyrenees

Join David’s Been Here for their travels through Spain as they seek out the best sites, destinations and must-see attractions in the country. In this short clip, David heads for the Northeast corner of Spain where he pays a visit to the small town of Sant Joan de les Abadesses. Though settlements in the area date back to prehistoric times, it wasn’t until Wilfred the Hairy established the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses that the present day town was founded. Explore this historic corner of the Pyrenees as David walks us through the bridges, cobblestone alleys and ancient quarters of one of Catalonia’s first monasteries. With beautiful sites and natural surroundings accompanied by an interesting, slightly tumultuous religious history, a visit to Sant Joan de les Abadesses is a Catalonia day trip well worth taking.
