Unique Holiday Traditions from Around the World

Check out some unique holiday traditions from around the world brought to you in part by my friends at Skype.

Christmas is a special time for my family and as a traveler, I’m always curious about customs from other countries. Some of my friends from around the globe wanted to share their favorite traditions with all of you through Skype. First is Anton from the Philippines telling us about the colorful Giant Lantern Festival that takes place every year via a Skype Video Call. He sent me a gallery of beautiful photos during our call.

My friend Jerry from Finland called me on Skype Mobile to share his fond memories of going to the sauna at his parents’ house near the Russian border on Christmas Day. Then Erik from Norway sent me a Skype Video Message about hiding brooms from witches during Christmas.

Afterwards my friends Diana and Valentina from Italy got on a Skype Group Call with me to explain who Befana the witch is and how she leaves stocking stuffers for good kids on the eve of 3 Kings Day (Jan. 5-6th)

Lastly, my friends Mike and Nelly from Austria created some Skype Highlights to show me how they leave goodies like fruits and chocolates in shoes for each other on Christmas.

As for me, I just love spending some down time with my family, especially my daughter. We decorate the tree, put out cookies and milk for Santa, and open gifts on Christmas morning.
