Traditional Rajasthani Thali & Visiting Amer Fort in Jaipur, India

On my first day in Jaipur I headed out with my friend Karan to eat traditional Rajasthani Thali and to visit a ton of main historical sites including the crown jewel of Rajasthan, Amer fort!

We started our tour of the city by visiting the City Palace. This is where the royal family of Rajasthan live. The palace was built between 1729 and 1732, it is a museum and a royal residence.

Next up we swung by the Hawa Mahal, a pink sandstone palace which was built in the form of a high wall to screen royal ladies as they watched street festivities.

For lunch we headed to Torba restaurant to try some traditional Rajasthani Thali. It’s very different from northern Indian food. A mix of vegetables, chutney’s and breads.. delicious!

From there we headed to Jal Mahal a palace that sits in the middle of Man Sagar lake. The grand palace is made of red sandstone and most of it submerged.

To end out tour we headed to Amer Fort, one of the largest and most famous fortresses in Rajasthan. It also has the 3rd largest wall in the world. It’s a fortress and a palace and the highlight for me was the Mirror Palace. Amer Fort was built in red sandstone and marble and the Maotha Lake adds a certain charm to the entire fortress.
