After my life-changing 16-day adventure through India, I had a 24-hour layover in Doha, the capital of Qatar. I teamed up with the Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli to film this epic, jam-packed episode in Qatar. Come along with me to Doha, Qatar as I feast on non-stop lamb, explore the exotic Souq Waqif, and go sand dune bashing in the desert!
I started my journey from Mumbai to Doha with a 6 a.m. flight. At the end of my 3-and-a-half-hour flight with Indian Air, I made it to Qatar. Then, I headed straight to Souq Waqif, which is the old town of Doha.
I stayed at Al Jasra hotel, one of the nine hotels owned by Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli. The manager, Ali, showed me some of the properties and took me to explore Souq Waqif. We saw the Falcon Souq and the Royal Stables. I also bought myself a traditional hat. Then, I had a quick lunch of juicy lamb and super flavorful couscous. It was delicious!
Then, I continued my whirlwind day in Doha, Qatar by heading from Souq Waqif to the desert. There, Inbound Qatar Tours offers desert safaris every day! I will provide a warning here, though. These dune bashing excursions are not for the faint of heart. It’s a fast and thrilling rollercoaster-like ride that sends you flying up and down, and whipping around the sand dunes at top speed. It’s a crazy ride that really gets your adrenaline pumping.
I recommend proceeding with caution if you don’t like wild rides or if you have a sensitive stomach. Even my iron-clad stomach felt a bit queasy at the end! But if you think your heart or stomach can handle it, going sand dune bashing is a must when you visit Doha.
To end my night, I enjoyed a traditional Moroccan dinner at Argan Restaurant in the Al Jasra hotel. There, I continued with the lamb chops with couscous theme. The flavors reminded me of my time in Morocco!
After dinner, Ali took me to see the bird market in Souq Waqif. There, you can purchase birds, rabbits, tortoises, dogs, and cats. It’s a really wild and interesting place! From there, I headed up to one of the suites of the hotel to get the best view overlooking Souq Waqif.
This was an incredible 24-hour layover in Doha, Qatar. If you are heading to Doha, Qatar and you have a significant layover, I definitely recommend you do everything in this video!
If you want to experience Doha and Qatar as a whole properly, you really need 3-5 days. But if you’re only connecting there, I suggest you stay for at least 24 hours. Trust me, it’s worth it!
I have to give a special shoutout to my friends at Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli. They made my 24-hour layover in Doha such a fun and exciting experience. I highly recommend staying there when you travel to Doha. Check out their website to learn more about them!
