Back in the summer of 2018, I visited the island of Puerto Rico for the first time in over ten years! On my second afternoon in San Juan, in partnership with the Intercontinental San Juan, my good friend Mariel de Viaje and I explored Old San Juan on foot and then ate some delicious Puerto Rican sushi! Come along with us on our Old San Juan walking tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico!
While the island of Puerto Rico is known for its food and its beautiful beaches, it’s a lot more than that. There’s also tons of history on the island. One of the best places to experience it is Old San Juan. Mariel and I headed out to explore all the must see’s in the oldest part of this beautiful city. First, we headed to San Cristobal Castle and then explored El Morro Castle. Both of these incredible structures were built by the Spanish over 400 years ago!
While we explored Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, we also tried some pineapple- ad coconut-flavored Caribbean ice cream. It was a bit icy, so it was more like a sorbet than ice cream. But it was packed full of fresh fruit flavor and was ice cold! That made it the perfect way to beat the sweltering tropical heat and humidity.
After we finished our ice cream, we continued our exploration of Old San Juan. Along the way, we found the best Instagram-worthy location in Old San Juan! There’s an awesome mural of the Puerto Rican flag there, and we couldn’t resist taking some photos!
After we finished up in Old San Juan, we drove back to the Intercontinental San Juan. There, we had dinner at Sak-I, an on-site Japanese-Latin fusion restaurant. We enjoyed a few amazing rolls and had some sake with it. It was all so good!
I have to give a big thanks to my friends at the Intercontinental San Juan for making my time in Puerto Rico such a fun and smooth experience. My trip wouldn’t have been possible without them! If you’d like to learn more about the Intercontinental San Juan, check out their website!
