My next adventure in Dominica took me from beautiful Mero Beach to an impromptu party on a boat at night! Join me as I explore more of this gorgeous island and all the cool things it has to offer!

There are a few restaurants and bars on the beach, including InDee’s Beach Bar & Restaurant. The moment I walked inside, they gave me a refreshing Kabuli beer! They say you can never have just one!

Next, they showed me some ginger rum and bush rum, and another called “Under the Table,” which contains marijuana! The Under the Table had an herbal flavor but was very smooth. Then, we headed into the kitchen to make grilled octopus and mahi mahi curry with coconut milk. It’s my favorite meal I had on Mero Beach!

The cooks in the kitchen had peeled and boiled some taro, mashed it, and mixed it with green seasoning. Then, they roll it into balls and deep-fry it! Next, they took some garlic butter, onions, bell peppers, coconut milk, black pepper, and turmeric and put it all in a pot. Then they placed the mahi mahi filets into it.

While I waited for everything to cook, they brought me a piña colada. As Nate and I drank, they grilled the octopus with some garlic butter, green seasoning, onions, and peppers. They also gave us the taro balls, fried plantains, and boiled taro.

The grilled octopus was succulent and tender and came with a nice green vinaigrette. The fried taro balls had a crispy exterior but were still doughy in the middle. Meanwhile, the mahi mahi curry with coconut reminded me of a Thai fish curry I’d had. I loved the spices and garlic butter throughout the dishes. I also couldn’t get enough of the fried plantains, which reminded me of maduro.

Visiting a Floating Bar

After we ate, Bongo surprised us with a trip to a floating bar near Mero Beach! It’s a bar on the water run by a few guys. It gets dragged by a separate speedboat! We started with a rum that comes in a skull-shaped bottle and mixed it with some Caribbean Pride grapefruit juice.

We continued into the night, and they made us some fresh fish kebabs, which contain 5 pieces of fish along with onions and bell peppers. They add a special, chunky sauce on top of the kebabs. Our host and Bongo even freestyled a rap for us!

I finished with a Guinness Foreign Extra along with my fish kebab. I loved adding the hot sauce on it. What an amazing experience in Dominica!
