When people refer to Dominica as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean,” they aren’t kidding. Dense rainforests and mountains cover much of the island, which is also crisscrossed by rivers and mesmerizing waterfalls. And, naturally, its forests house diverse wildlife. Located between Guadeloupe and Martinique, Dominica is home to vibrant national parks and stunning forests, which are the perfect spot for a jungle haircut!
With mountains full of hot springs and the second-biggest boiling lake on the globe, Dominica is a paradise for nature lovers. The island invites visitors to enjoy its trails, dive into its waters, and spot tropical birds. A rich blend of African, Carib, and European traditions gives Dominica a distinct and inviting culture. Its capital, Roseau, presents visitors with lovely colonial buildings and lively markets full of activity.
After my boat trip down the Indian River to the Bush Bar in the jungles of Dominica, I got a haircut right in the middle of the rainforest!
My new friend Darryl would be giving me the haircut outside on the wooden walkway leading to the Bush Bar. I was ready for a little jungle-style pampering! I wanted a clean shave.
Even though we were still fairly close to Portsmouth, there was a lot of nature out here. It was so peaceful and beautiful.
First, Darryl used the clippers to shave my head. The clippers running across my scalp felt so relaxing to me. It was like a concentrated massage. He continued to use different clippers to get closer shaves with each pass. It was so relaxing, I was starting to fall asleep!
Then, Darryl used smaller clippers to line up my beard and mustache. He made sure to get under my chin and my sideburns. Next, he used a comb and clippers to trim my beard down. I had been growing it for about three weeks, so I was ready to have a lot less hair on my face.
I felt a lot lighter by the time he was done. Then, he used the clippers to clean the front and back of my neck, and another pair to get my cheeks. He then applied a line of baby powder to the line of my beard and finally sprayed me with alcohol to finish up!
What an incredible, and relaxing Dominican haircut experience in the jungle by the Indian River! I couldn’t believe how relaxing the entire experience was, from the head shaving to the trimming of my beard. I actually fell asleep a few times. The vibrations from the clippers almost put me in a trance!
