Scheduled 2012 Itinerary So Far…

As some of you may know from my tweets and Facebook posts, 2012 has proved to be a very exciting year for Davidsbeenhere, and it’s only getting better! Right now I am traveling through Guatemala exploring Mayan ruins and sampling all the delicious delicacies in the vibrant outdoor markets with INGUAT the Guatemalan Tourism Board. I will soon be off to the El Salvadorian border to discover El Salvador and immerse myself deeper into the amazing world of Mayan culture.

I will be traveling through El Salvador with MITUR, which is the El Salvador Tourism board. My itinerary with them is for 9 full days and I am basically covering the entire country. The most exciting part for me about El Salvador is that it has the only uncovered ruins of Mayan houses. These are over 1,000 years old and are unique structures from ancient Meso-America. After a grueling 9 days of non-stop driving and filming I get to have a 3-day break at a friend’s beach house. This will give me a much-needed chance to get some work done and finally relax with no place to go. Any trip through areas with warm climates will wear out even the most seasoned of travelers, so the off time will be a much-welcomed relief.

I arrive back home in Miami on March 5th, then I’m off to Europe less than a week later for 45 days. This will be a multi-country trip through Galicia, Spain (Ourense, Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, La Coruna, and Lugo), Asturias, Spain (Oviedo, Gijon, Luanco, Covadonga), Malta (Gozo and Comino), Cyprus (Larnaca, Nicosia, Pafos, Limassol, Khirokitia, Palaichori, Dali, and Polis), Barcelona, and Andorra (La Vella, El Serrat, Santa Julia de Loria) and Seu d’Urgell.

You may be thinking why such a long trip? For starters, Galicia, Spain is huge! You could literally spend over a month in the area exploring small, picturesque towns and sampling some of the best octopus and seafood on earth. I have been to Asturias and Madrid several times, so I am excited to return to rediscover it all.

We will have 2 full days of rest in Madrid before heading out to the small island nation of Malta. The Maltese Tourism Board has invited us to explore this charming, historical island for 8 full days. I will be visiting several attractions, beaches and restaurants throughout this trip. I am especially looking forward to spending Easter on the beautiful island of Gozo.

From there we will not be returning to Spain, but instead heading to Cyprus for 10 full days. We have teamed up with the Larnaca Tourism Board to show that this is the main place to stay and you can visit the entire island by taking day trips from there. I will be traveling around the Greek portion of Cyprus and cannot wait to taste some of the famous wines of the area.

Once our trip ends, we will be flying to Barcelona to for a 2-day breather. Then, we’re off to Andorra. It is a small European nation located between Spain and France. Andorra has a unique culture all its own, which is reflected in its award-winning fusion cuisine. The country’s official language is Catalan and it’s known as one of the best places in the world for skiing. It is my hope that my work there creates significant exposure for this small, but incredible nation.

By the first week of May I will be back home in Miami (just in time for the sweltering heat) for 1 month. Then off to Malawi, Africa. The Malawi Tourism Board had provided a generous 22-day itinerary that involves a plethora of exhilarating activities that I can’t wait to tell you about.
