After an amazing trip to Thailand and the Philippines and a 24-hour layover in Singapore, I continued my slow journey home with a few amazing days in Helsinki to do a really cool job! Join me as I try some crazy fresh salmon and visited the top things to do in Helsinki, Finland during the winter!
I had visited the city twice before and had fallen in love with it. I’m not usually a big fan of repeating destinations, but this was definitely an exception. I had never visited Helsinki in winter, so that would be new for me!
I started my journey to Helsinki from Singapore, flying with Finnair in Business Class. On the flight, I watched Star Wars and slept like a baby! When I arrived in Helsinki I took the train to the city center and went straight to my hotel, Klaus K Hotel.
Then, my friend Meri picked me up and took me to see some of the must-visit sites in the city. We checked out Cafe Regatta and the Kaisma Museum and many more sites. I had the awesome opportunity to try some amazing cloudberry jams. They were so tasty, I had to buy a few jars to take home with me! Then, I headed to Helsinki Cathedral and the Skywheel, a 40-meter tall Ferris wheel and observation deck! It gives you a 360-degree view over Helsinki!
Next to the Skywheel is a really unique attraction: the Allas Sea Pools. Their two swimming pools right next to the Baltic Sea. One of them is heated, while the other is freezing cold. After you take a dip in them, you head over to the sauna!
For lunch, I went to the Old Market Hall to try some crazy fresh salmon. First I tried a few different pieces of raw salmon and to stay warm I decided to eat a salmon soup. The soup was out of control and full of big chunks of salmon! It was a little heavy on the potato for me, but overall, it was a delicious, creamy fish soup. I couldn’t get enough of it!
What a long day! I had traveled from Singapore to Helsinki and had crammed a full day’s worth of exploring in, thanks to Meri. I have to give her a huge thanks for showing me around Helsinki.
