In July of 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to head down to Clutch Burger in the Coral Gables area of Miami, my hometown. I was there to try their “Shut the Clutch Up” Clutch Burger challenge, which tasks entrants with finishing a massive, cheesy burger in a short amount of time.
This burger contains six wagyu beef patties, each of them covered in two slices of cheese, two onion rings, a brioche bun, and a pound of steak fries and a milkshake on the side! Professional eaters are only given 10 minutes to complete the challenge, but as an amateur, I had fifteen minutes. It’s one of the craziest eating challenges in Miami. Let’s do it!
I met up with the owner, Steve, who told me that if I beat the Clutch Burger challenge, I get a one free Clutch Burger every month for a year. I headed into the kitchen and watched the cook, Jay, build my burger. While she built it, Steve made my milkshake. This thing looks insane when it’s all put together!
Before I started, Steve gave me some tips on how to tackle this beast. He told me to let it cool off for 5 to 8 minutes and then go for the meat first. If I don’t do it, I have to shut the clutch up!
I took the burger apart and went straight into the patties. The two kinds of cheese on top were incredible. I got one patty down after a minute. I was glad the burger was tasty. Sometimes, with food challenges, the food isn’t great. But this burger was amazing!
I switched it up a bit and went for the crunchy onion ring in-between bites of the burger patty. With two patties down, I folded the third to try to get it down faster. I couldn’t get over the mix of cheeses!
Halfway through with the burger, I went for patty number 4. It was getting hard. It was brutal but delicious. I could feel the wall coming on. It was a lot of meat!
I took a bite of the bun and then went to the fries, followed by some of the shake. Patty number 5 was tough. I didn’t want to eat anything else!
I took a quick break to take a photo with Jay and then dug back into the fifth patty. I never wanted to do this again. I got a beer to help give me a buzz because I was already sinking into a food coma!
I had less than 4 minutes left and attacked more of the burger with a knife and fork, but it was impossible! There was no way I could finish this Clutch Burger challenge. I didn’t feel so good! I could feel my stomach expanding. I couldn’t see how five people had completed this challenge in the past! One of them did it in only 6 minutes and 10 seconds!
What a crazy challenge! If you’re ever in Miami, I highly recommend coming to Clutch Burger and trying their amazing food. But only try this challenge if you have an enormous stomach!
I hope you enjoyed watching me take on the Shut the Clutch Up Clutch Burger Challenge! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. Also, please subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!
