Celebrity Travel Addicts: Chris and Marianna of Greek Nomads

In this edition of Celebrity Travel Addicts, we speak with Chris and Marianna, the globetrotting couple behind Greek Nomads! We chat with Chris and Marianne about why travel is important, their quest to experience destinations the way the locals do, their favorite things to do in Greece, and much more. Check out their favorite destinations around the world and find out where they’re headed next!

How did your passion for travel get started?

Well, our passion for travel started from a small age. We both always loved to travel even before we fell upon each other. After our love journey started, we booked our first trip and here we are.

What does travel mean to you? Why do you feel it’s important?

Travel for us is a way of expressing our feelings. It is a reward for us. Instead of buying fancy things, going out for expensive dinners etc., we love to book air tickets and start organizing our trips. That’s how we always do our trips. Chris is the guy for that as he always looks into it. So, it is important for us as we can’t live without us. Can you live without drinking water? Definitely not. This is how much important is for us!

The two of you run a travel blog called Greek Nomads. Can you please tell us a bit about it? How did it come about? What makes it different from other travel content out there?

Our blog started on August 2017 and we were thinking it a lot. We saw a need to be honest. All of our friends and their friends were constantly asking us about our travels and how to book that trip, what to do and we sat down and thought a solution. Marianne love to write for her experiences and we started a blog. Our goal and what we believe differentiates us from the other blogs and their content is we try to find really local activities. Before we go to a place, we invest everything. We are asking locals for their favorite spots, restaurants, coffee places etc. We might even Skype with strangers just for their opinion for their city. We know where a tourist should go in Athens and where not, so this is how we thought it out.

You’re passionate about experiencing destinations the way a local would. What are some tips you can share on how others can do that, too?

Like we said already when you are travelling somewhere dig it up first. Don’t just get in the first store you will see just because the waiter or personnel convinced you. Instagram nowadays is a great place for research as there are so many Instagrammers (not bloggers) sharing their opinions and photos. You can find everything online so try researching your possible activities. Another smart tip is if you have a friend or someone who lives at the city you are going at ask them for help and tips.

Obviously, you’re both from Greece. What are some things travelers should do there when they visit?

There are so many things to do and see in our country. They can visit several cities and islands and not only Athens or Santorini. I know it’s not easy to see them all one time, but you definitely must come back. Of course, Athens is a must-see city, especially during autumn and spring. We strongly believe that it is an upcoming travel trend destination that you should look. Some other cities we recommend visiting are Trikala, Thessaloniki, Kalamata (wonderful region), Ioannina and Meteora. For Greek islands, everybody knows how beautiful they are during summertime. For us you should definitely visit Milos, Kos, Kalymnos, Astypalaia, Crete, Lefkada, Santorini and do a day cruise during your trip in Athens on Hydra-Poros-Aegina. You can see the one we did on our YouTube Channel.

How many days/weeks do you travel in any given year? What types of places do you like to visit?

We travel abroad approximately 5 times per year and another 4-6 times to places in Greece. That sums up for 9 to 10 weeks every single year. We choose to travel to unknown places to tell their story and let people know that there are some undiscovered places too. During summer we choose sea-destinations and all the other year we are trying to visit any type of cities. You will find us travelling to famous ones too as we can’t miss those for sure.

What do you want audiences to gain and learn from your work?

We want our audience to realize that travel is affordable, possible and of course the best tool to relax from work routine and live life. It might sound cliché, but we only live once, and we have so many things to see. Come on guys go out there and explore, we are so small in such a big world. When we think that we have seen so few places we want more. Not the expensive bag or iPhone to impress our friends. It’s never too late to start travelling but when you start it depends how much you will travel.

What are the top three destinations you’ve visited?

New York and the whole USA trip

Prague

Poznan

Give us your ‘Top 5’ list for one of your top 3 destinations. Like a mini-guide or a to-do list of sorts. It can be anything from your favorite hotel, the best place to have lunch, the best sightseeing, etc.

We will take Prague as it was our first trip together! So top 5 list in our opinion that you should definitely do:

–                The Dancing House
–                Start with Cafe Louvre in which you will feel like kings. Classy design, courteous service, and great choices for sweets.
–                Try the traditional sweet Trdelnik!
–                Next stop the Lokal a traditional Czech restaurant. A hangout for the locals who serves traditional food and fine beers.
–                Try staying at Corinthia Hotel as we loved it!
