After spending two days in Brazil’s seafood and party capital, Florianopolis, I finally arrived in its meat capital following a five-hour road trip south. Join me on an all you can eat Brazilian steak adventure in Porto Alegre, Brazil!
My Brazilian steak-eating adventure started at Freio de Ouro Churrascaria, a popular Brazilian steakhouse in Porto Alegre, with my friends Guilherme and Rafa from Rio4Fun and Rio4Food. They sell 12-15 different cuts of meat, and you can eat never-ending meat for roughly R$60, or about $12 USD!
In the kitchen, I got to watch as they cooked tons of cuts of meat, including lamb, top sirloin, chicken hearts, chorizo, ribs, and more. It’s a meat paradise! For most of the meat, they just put rock salt on it and then just grill it, but they also have some that they grill covered in cheese!
I started with pork ribs, beef ribs, top sirloin steak, spicy pork sausage, and cheese with guava. The beef ribs were salty and juicy. It was insanely good! But I needed to take it slow so I wouldn’t get full too fast!
The top sirloin with parmesan was well done but so tasty! The cheese was super gooey. I also tried some juicy and fatty skirt steak, which was nice and crispy on the outside.
The main cuts that are popular in Porto Alegre are the vacio, picanha, and ribs. Next, I jumped on the chicken hearts. I love organ meat. They’re a little salty and have a nice, iron-rich flavor.
Then, the waiter brought some top sirloin steak and sliced it off the skewer right at our table. I prefer my meat a little red and bloody. It was so buttery! I also had some sheep, which was a little gamy and crispy on the outside. I couldn’t get enough of it! I was in meat heaven!
Next, the waiter brought some entrecôte, which is a thin, boneless ribeye steak that’s cut from between the ribs. It’s one of my favorites and is soft, juicy, and rare. You can choose how rare or well-done you want your meat here! My mouth was watering after every bite.
Next were chicken thighs, which were crispy on the outside and a little fatty. So tasty! Then, I tried some of the fried cheese with guava. It’s like membrillo, a dish I loved in Spain. It’s a sweet and salty combo.
Then, we headed over to the buffet. At the salad bar, they had salads, cheese, olives, condiments, and lots of Brazilian craft beers. I got a banana salad, feta cheese with herbs, ravioli, roasted kale with garlic, and caramelized pumpkin.
The kale was awesome, and the pumpkin was so sweet. The ravioli with bacon and cheese wasn’t my favorite, but the pumpkin with the feta was outstanding! The feta was salty and crumbly.
Then, I got some pineapple as a digestive afterward. They also have desserts like flan and a tiramisu-like chocolate pie. The pineapple was sweet and crunchy, with a nice burst of juice! Then, I got some flan and a mousse-like chocolate pie that was similar to tiramisu.
What an outstanding all you can eat Brazilian steak experience in Porto Alegre, Brazil! Huge thanks to Guilherme and Rafa for bringing me here, and to my friends at the Hotel Intercity Cidade Baixa for hosting us!
