As a world traveler, immersing myself in the culture of the places I visit is a must. And when I get the opportunity to immerse myself even further in them when I’m at home, I always jump at the chance! Join me as I visit an Indian clothing store in my hometown of Miami, Florida!
For this adventure, I linked up with my good friend and agent Kyle Hjelmeseth, who is the founder of God & Beauty, the agency that represents me out in Los Angeles! We’d be joined by his good friend Bobby Bilina. I couldn’t wait to go inside Rupees, a local Indian clothing store, and try on some clothes!
They have an incredible assortment of men’s and women’s clothing at Rupees. They have everything from casual attire to more formalwear to Bollywood clothing. Inside, we met Sachin, who showed us around the store!
The menswear Kyle and I would be wearing comes with a tunic, pants, and a scarf. They’re popular at formal events like parties and weddings. Some are cotton-polyester blends and others are made of silk!
The clothes were so beautiful. I also saw some amazing hats. But I also noticed that the women’s section was much larger than the men’s.
After trying on my outfit, I felt like I was still missing a hat, but I loved the fabric. It brought out my blue eyes! Then I finally got my hat and they taught me how to wear the scarf, which you just drape around your shoulders. Kyle and Bobby looked awesome as well! After trying on a bracelet, I felt like an Indian boss ready for a Hindu wedding!
On sale, they also had beautiful jewelry, other accessories, and home décor like elephant statues, bags, rugs, cushion covers, and more. They had an amazing elephant statue from Rajasthan. Everything is imported from India, and they get inventory every couple of months.
Kyle got a few things for his son and wife, and then we went outside to see some murals on the side of the building. They had artwork of elephants, Gandhi, and even DMX. They’re done by local artists named Marvin Vega and Roderick Mendoza.
I learned that my boy Sachin is from Durban, South Africa, which has the largest Indian population outside of India!
Kyle and I loved the outfits we were wearing. We both felt like we could wear them all day long if it wasn’t so hot outside! They would be great for going to a wedding or even an Indian restaurant!
What an awesome experience visiting an Indian clothing store in Wynwood, Florida! Huge thanks to my friends Kyle and Bobby, and to Sachin at Rupees for inviting us down!
