Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge: Visegrad, Bosnia & Herzegovina

David’s Been Here is traveling through Bosnia and Herzegovina in search of the country’s top attractions and best historical sites. In this short clip, David brings us to one of the most incredible Ottoman bridges in the world: the Visegrad Bridge. Commissioned by Mehmed Paša Sokolović and built between the years of 1571 and 1577, this Ottoman masterpiece has 11 arches and spans 179.5 meters in length. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, if you love classic architecture and are looking for an excellent day trip from Sarajevo, this bridge is an absolute must see. Take the 1.5 to 2 hour drive from the Bosnian capital out to Visegrad, check out the iconic bridge, grab some lunch and enjoy the scenic cruise in one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most picturesque regions.
