Welcome to the Trinidad and Tobago hub at David’s Been Here. Trinidad and Tobago is a beautiful twin-island nation in the Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela. This diverse country is known for its vibrant culture, music, and cuisine. The local food is a delicious blend of African, Indian, Chinese, Amerindian, and European influences.
Some of the most popular dishes include curry chicken, roti, doubles, callaloo, and bake and shark. Spices like cumin, chadon beni (culantro), turmeric, cilantro, ginger, thyme, coriander, allspice, curry powder, and pepper give the food its distinct flavor. Fresh seafood and fruit is abundant and often incorporated into dishes.
I toured Trinidad and Tobago in the spring of 2022 with my friend, Chef Jason Peru. Over ten days, he took me to have doubles, succulent crab and dumplings, and even exotic meats like curry iguana and curry armadillo!
